What are the procedures and requirements for working and staying in Indonesia for foreigners ??
If you wish to stay and work in Indonesia then you must apply for a working visa (index 312) and Temporary Stay Permit (ITAS) in Indonesia, but first, you must apply for a working permit (IMTA) at the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia.
ITAS with a working visa is the most complete working permit that you must have so that you can officially work and stay in Indonesia, earn an income, open a bank account, pay taxes, etc.

3 PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR WORKING IN INDONESIA
1. Working Permit in Indonesia (IMTA)
The first step for foreigners to work in Indonesia is to apply for a working permit (IMTA) issued by the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia. In order to obtain a working permit, there must be a company in Indonesia as a sponsor that guarantees that you will work for the company.
The company must be an official legal entity registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia.
Companies can be in the form of Foreign-Owned Companies (PMA), Representative Offices of Foreign Companies (KPPA), National Private Companies or Domestic Capital Companies (PMDN).
The term of working permit granted by the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia may vary between 1 to 12 months, depends on the positions and requirements approved by the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia.
Working permit is granted in the form of Notification of DKP-TKA Payment Order.
Working permit for the term of 1-6 months (short term), it is cannot be extended.
Working permit for the term of 7-12 months (long term), it is can be extended.
2. Working Visa (index E23-25)
After you obtained a working permit, then the next step is to apply for a working visa at the Immigration Office of Indonesia.
The term of Working visa from the immigration office is in accordance with the term of working permit granted by the ministry of manpower of Indonesia.
The Working visa process is automatically submitted to the Directorat General Immigration office after the sponsoring company pays the DKP-TKA in accordance with the Notification of Payment Order issued by the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia.
3. Temporary Stay Permit (ITAS)
ITAS (Temporary Stay Permit) is issued by the Immigration Office of Indonesia addressed to foreigners staying in Indonesia.
ITAS consists of several types according to visas that are approved and issued by the immigration authorities.
The term of ITAS is in accordance with the term of the approved visas.

Can I start processing the working visa before I enter Indonesia?
Yes, You Can !!!
And indeed, you should be outside Indonesia.
Firstly, ask your sponsoring company to apply for a working permit and working visa for you.
After the working visa (usually called telex visa/calling visa) issued, you can get the working visa at the designated Indonesian Embassy.
When entering Indonesia through designated airport, the an E-ITAS will be processed (Electronic Temporary Stay Visa).
Your biometric data will then be taken (photo of your face and fingerprints) at the immigration counter at the airport.
The E-ITAS will then be sent by email after 1-3 days.
How long will the term of a Working permit/working visa that we can get?
Working permit, working visa and ITAS for the term of 12 months are only be guaranteed for Directors and Commissioners. For other positions, depending on the level of position, type of company, line of business, up to the number of local workers, or depending on the request of the sponsoring company.
Working permit for the term of 1-6 months (short term), working permit cannot be extended.
Working permit for the term of 7-12 months (long term), working permit can be extended

What is DKP-TKA Fund and what is the amount?
DKP-TKA Fund (Expertise and Skills Training Fund) is a payment made to the Ministry of Manpower in Indonesia. These costs are for supporting local workforce training and cannot be negotiated. The price is $ 100 USD per month per person. The total amount of DPKK payments depends on the Working permit approved by the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia.
I have already had ITAS, can I switch jobs and keep my ITAS?
Unfortunately, you cannot continue your ITAS at this moment.
You MUST terminate your employment contract with the current sponsoring company and then perform an EPO (Exit Permit Only) which will end your ITAS. Then you choose your new working permit and visa with your new company.

Can I perform more than one job in my ITAS?
This is called the Dual Employment.
Generally, Expatriates are not allowed to do Dual Employment.However, it is allowed only specifically for certain positions or fields, namely :
- Position of Director or commissioner, not a shareholder
- Vocational education and training
- Digital Economy
- Oil and gas sector for cooperation contractors
Other than the above mentioned sector are NOT ALLOWED to perform dual employment.
If I want to extend my ITAS, what should I do?
To end your ITAS, you must apply for an EPO (Exit Permit Only) at the Immigration Office of Indonesia.
After your EPO stamp is issued, you must leave the country within 7 days.
If your ITAS is expired but you are outside Indonesia, you must apply for an ERP (Exit ReEntry-Permit).
What will happen if I stay longer than the validity period of the ITAS?
If you stay in Indonesia and exceed the term of your ITAS without extending your ITAS (overstay), you will be sanctioned in accordance with the applicable regulations, such as: daily fine, blacklist from the country or even get deported.
In 2019, the fine for overstay increased Rp. 1,000,000 per day.
Do I need to apply for a working permit and working visa if I am an investor and have shares in the sponsoring company?
No,
Specifically for investors, with ownership of shares in the sponsoring company, then you only apply for investor visa and ITAS, without the need to pay the DPKK funds.

What documents needed in order to get a Working permit (IMTA), working visa and ITAS?
In general, the requirements for working and staying in Indonesia are not too difficult. As long as you don’t have a criminal record and immigration violations, you will be able to work and stay in Indonesia.
Requirements are divided into 2, requirements for prospective workers and requirements for companies as sponsors.
Applicant’s Personal Documents
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the foreigners
- Academic Certificate
- Work experience letter, minimum 5 years
- Passport with the validity of minimum 18 (eighteen) months
- Photograph
- Certificate of Domicile of the prospective foreign workers while staying in Indonesia
Company’s Sponsor Documents
- Deed of establishment of the company
- Deed of amendment (if any)
- Decree of the Ministry of Justice for the Establishment/Amendment (if any) of the company,
Approval from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights - Business Identification Number (NIB)
- Tax Registration Number (NPWP)
- Residential Identity Card (KTP) of the Director of the Company as the Guarantor, or passport
if the Director is a foreigner. - Application letter (we have prepared the draft)
- Mandatory Company Report
- Occupational contract between the sponsoring company and expatriate
- Company’s bank Account – minimum balance 50 million rupiah
